Installation instruction for 12x24", 4x4' and 4x8' mail order kits.

12" x 24" instructions

Tools needed

Drill, paddle bit 5/8", ratchet and/or adjustable crescent wrench, socket 7/16", scissors, ladder, pencil, tape measure.

Instructions
(1) Mark where you want your Skyshelf to go. (where the holes go into the ceiling). Use a stud finder or drive a nail to make sure there is no wood behind the hole.

(2) Drill the holes. Using 5/8" inch paddle bit.

(3) Install the supporting arms. Leave 1/2 of the threaded rod sticking past the toggle wing, then fold the toggle wing until tightly closed and insert into the hole until the toggle wing pops open. Slide the large washer up the threaded arm against the ceiling (keep the white sides of all washers and nuts exposed), then screw a nut up the threaded arm, tighten with wrench until snug.

(4) Slide the plastic sleeves onto the threaded rod. Cut the length of the plastic sleeves with the scissors so that 1-1/2" of the threaded rod will be exposed underneath.

(5) Install Skyshelf. Screw nuts onto remaining exposed arms,  then a washer,  then slide the Skyshelf onto the arms, then another washer, then the remaining 2 nuts onto the arms and tighten, slide the white caps snugly onto the nuts.

                                                        4' x 4' & 4' x 8' instructions

Tools needed

Drill, drill bits-1/8" & 1/2", ratchet, sockets-5/8"or (16mm)- 9/16"or(14mm), wrench, vice grip,
tape measure, ladder, stud finder, pencil.

Instructions
Shelving material is a matter of personal preference, particle board, plywood or melamine can all be used, no less than 5/8" thickness is recommended, 4x4' and 4x8' sheets can be purchased at most
building material outlets.

(1) Mark where you want your Skyshelf to go. Layout where the anchors will go into the ceiling by locating with a stud finder the exact center of the truss, rafter or joist where the Skyshelf will be anchored. It is important that you land on exact center for proper installation. Layout of the anchors is recommended to be no less than 24" or more than 32" in width, whichever adapts to your particular layout. Layout can be modified to suit need. Mirror the marks from the ceiling onto the shelving material, all holes should be no less than 3/4" from outside edge of shelving material.

(2) Drill holes. Pre-drill 1/8" pilot holes into the ceiling marks and drill 1/2" holes into the shelving material marks.
Note: Before drilling holes into the shelving material place the channel struts over the shelving material to make sure the holes you are about to drill will fit within the holes in the channel strut, in case of an uneven match-up, simply off set the holes in the shelving material to match the channel strut holes.

(3) Install anchors. With the 5/8"(16mm) socket, drive the anchors into the ceiling until snug.

(4) Install arms. Screw the all thread rods into anchors by hand then hold the anchor steady with
a crescent wrench while clamping the all thread with a vice grip and tightening until snug.

(5) Install nut. Screw a nut onto the all threads until there is 2" of all thread underneath the nut.

(6) Install Skyshelf. With the assistance of typically another human you need to now worm the  rods through the shelving material holes. Note: make sure you place a washer between the already connected nut and the top of the shelving material as you do this. Do two holes
at a time, poke the rods through and put a washer and nut on underneath to temporarily hold shelving material repeat the procedure on the other side, except this time connect the channel strut underneath, install washer and nut, repeat on opposite side.Tighten nuts.

4' x 4' instructions: Are identical to 4x4' instructions with the addition of an extra channel strut.

Upgrades: There are a couple of ways to upgrade a Skyshelf (1) Install sway bracing. Angle iron used to support garage door rails is recommended. Bracing can go at 45° or horizontally to connect to an area with solid backing. (2) Install plastic sleeves on to rods between steps 4 and 5. 3/8" inside diameter hose can be found at most hardware stores, 1/2" can be substituted if 3/8" proves to difficult. (3) Height can be modified by cutting off remaining rod with a grinder.
